Local Girl's Guide to Maui

http://www.mauikai.biz Local Girl's Guide to Maui
is a guide I put together of my favorite
restaurants, local foods, farmers markets,
beaches, snorkeling spots, hikes and walks,
activities and of course shopping!

The $10 guide is a PDF file that I will email to you.
You can print it out or take it with you to Maui
on your laptop computer.

The guide is also a great gift
for anyone you know who's going to Maui.

Do you like to travel and experience local culture?

Do you want to know where to find the food and locations you see on this page?

If so, this guide is for you!

If you don’t like to stray from your comfort zone,
if you only eat and stay in corporate hotels and restaurants, or
if you only shop in name-brand stores,
this guide is not for you.

www.mauikai.biz Local Girl’s Guide to Maui
started as a list of my favorite restaurants
that I gave my friends going to Maui.

Over the years I’ve added information
for my travel clients.

Now I’m offering it to you,
but only if you want to see Maui as a local girl does.

Read the TripAdvisor reviews!

Why should you trust my instincts
over the widely read guide books out there?

For the only reason that matters:
I’m a local Hawaii girl.
I’ve grown up, lived in and experienced the islands my entire life.

I update the guide monthly
so you will have the 808 (Hawaii area code)
on what’s happening on Maui.

Here are some examples of what you'll find in the guide...

The guide will tell you
where to find this special restaurant:
Japanese deli with some of the BEST
food on the entire island. Take-out
place with limited counter seating.
Try the lemon caper mahi-mahi, Caesar
salad, black bean chow fun, Korean
style chicken BBQ, and teriyaki steak
(unbelievable!). This is a very special
find and you must eat here to experience
fresh fish cooked perfectly at affordable
prices. Ask for the fresh fish of the day
and then choose how you want it prepared
(sautéed, broiled, panko-fried, or lemon
caper). Everything here is enticing and
the local owners are very nice folks.
Gets super busy so call in your order
between 4:30-5:30pm for later pick-up
(they sometimes put their phone on busy
or infinite ring when they are
overwhelmed with orders).  Cash only.

www.mauicalls.com The guide will tell you
where to find this beginners snorkeling spot:
This is a perfect spot for beginners
and gentle enough for children.
The inner reef is shallow but
the water there can be murky.
The outer reef, 50 to 100 yards
     from shore, has many fish,
large coral heads and turtles.
Go early before the crowds arrive
and stir up the sand.
     There are no facilities here.

The guide will tell you
where to find this shopper's paradise:
This is the place to shop
and people-watch.
Very nice souvenir shopping.
The locals sell anything
you can imagine.
For adults, children and infants,
there is new clothing
(T-shirts, dresses, shorts, swimwear,
one-of-a-kind hand-painted clothes,
Bali clothing), shoes and sandals,
designer knock-off handbags
and sunglasses, carvings, jewelry,
handmade island soaps, fresh flowers,
fresh fruit (papayas, pineapples, mangos,
and bananas) and cooked foods
(banana bread, cookies, pies, etc.).
Take a cooler to transport
your goodies back to your hotel or condo.
Our favorite vendor/artist is to the
right in the last row of vendors
from the entrance - he is the most
creative artist on the island
with his whimsical shirts, cover-ups,
children’s items, magnets, bags, and
soaps all in uniquely colorful designs.
Talk to him - he’s a local character
and very entertaining.

THIS WEEK'S RECIPE

TERIYAKI SAUCE

2 cups Yamasa soy sauce
NOTE: Yamasa is much better than Kikkoman
1/2 cup canned or fresh (boxed is fine) pineapple juice
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup C&H dark brown sugar
NOTE: support Hawaii by buying C&H (California & Hawaii) sugar
6 cloves minced garlic
2 tbsp grated fresh ginger (freeze before grating)

Cut inexpensive beef into paper-thin slices.
Marinate for two nights in refrigerator.
Barbecue, constantly basting with sauce.

You can use this sauce on chicken or fish also.

YUMMY!
